    MAC mini overclocking

    Hi all,

Im totally new to MACs and have been a long time PC builder, so I have been thinking of getting a MAC mini just to see what its like etc etc, and I was wondering is there anyway of overclocking a MAC mini? Im only planning to get the base model as its not something I want to spend much on but free power is always a good thing.

    Thanks for your help.

Not possible to overlock the CPU in the base model. You can upgrade it though. I put a 2.4Ghz chip, 2GB RAM and 802.11n in mine.

Massive overkill, but pretty cool in a geeky sort of way.

    Re: MAC mini overclocking

Ah rite, ok then, from what ive read I thought that might be the case, I suspect I will upgrade the RAM and maybe replace the HDD, but its just to mess about on so I think a new CPU might be a step too far .

    Thanks for the help.

the reason i sold my mac mini was due to it being too slow and only wireless g

Intel Mac Mini's are mobile socket 478 if I remember rightly, either way they are socketed cpu's as I also upgraded one of mine from a core solo cpu to a 2gig core2duo one.

Dont know if the old powermac cpu's were soldered or not though.

    Re: MAC mini overclocking

You can upgrade pretty much everything on the mini, I've upgraded the cpu, ram, hdd and wifi on the one I had.

They are a pig to work on, but that's the price of having something that small!

mightymouse there are plenty of guides out there to show how to do the wifi, basically you buy a wifi card for a mac pro and replace the original and add and antennae.
