Re: Macbook Advice

you have probably got one already, but in my 3rd year of uni and always used Windows i went to buy a mac and had the same problem. in the end i went to with the white once, saved money, does just about the same, and with the extra money i went on crucial got and extra 2GB ram for £40. and even if you put it in yourself its still under the applecare warranty, which also adds another £50 quid on your bill after the student discount which takes about £100 of the price of that.

How it feels is irrelevant to how robust it will be. I still consider it outrageous blasphemy to claim an Apple product could be more sturdy and have better longevity than an IBM one.

That said, I've seen the white macbook in action, and I think it's a blinding little machine. it's viewing angles impressed me greatly. Thus, I would say the LED-backlighting on the pricier model is a good thing, but the white model has a fantastic screen in itself.

Of course there isn't £200 more laptop in the aluminium macbook. You are paying for the newest and shiniest thing. I don't know how I feel about it myself. Personally, I prefer it if people go overboard with their purchases, leaving the bargains for me

Don't forget that the unibody construction means it's a sealed unit, which is frankly disgusting. Engineering specifically intended to get you to come back to them and separate you from more of your cash.

    Edit: Oops, too late.

Just because the unibody MacBook's are made of a single piece of aluminium doesn't mean they're a sealed unit, as the take apart guide on iFixIt.com demonstrates.

Personally I would avoid the plastic MacBooks. The white ones look pretty dated and are also susceptible to cracks.

Sorry but that's so wrong it's untrue. You can upgrade the hard drive in less than a minute the ram and optical drive can be accessed with the removal of a couple of screws.
