    USB flash memory drives

are there any usb drives known to work well with iBooks at all, and any that just wont?...reliability etc.
my mum recently got one for her laptop and its playing her around a bit, just wondering if perhaps she managed to find one that, although saying it works with macs...doesn't.
    cheers

Well, I dont really see why the shouldn't work with a mac, I've got two, and both were given to me without knowing I had a mac, but still work fine. What make/model has she got?

I have 2 of them as well.

1 is a Dell 128mb (works fine in both PC and MAC, formatted as FAT32)
1 is an unbranded Taiwainese 64mb jobby (again works fine)

how do macs work? - under linux (whic is a similar unix deriviant to osx), you can just put an fstab entry in - then just mount it using mount /dev/sda /mnt/usbstick or whatever.

OSX just "senses" it and mounts it automatically.

OSX is FreeBSD unix based so, hence the similarities.

    don't think its freeBSD based?

From what i've heard its based partly on BSD - not necessarily a distro of BSD (i.e. FreeBSD) nor even BSD itself.

Oh and it "senses" and mounts it automatically? Thats a daemon running in the background on the usb ports. i was just wondering if it was possible to just mount it manually using a shell script.
