Just seen the 17" iMac in the "flesh"

We got these in at work today (yeah a bit late I know), and I have to say I am disappointed. The lump of plastic at the bottom of the screen is far too big compared to the rest of the front, and the whole thing just looks like theres something that should be there which is missing. It's also nowhere as thin as I expected it to be.

The photos of the 20" show it to suffer less from the "thick bezel" problem, so I'll reserve judgement on that until I see it.

The Apple Imac 20" has a big of bottom section as the 17" model you could even argue that it is bigger.

Yer, I mean if you look at the size of laptops, even desktop replacement types, I don't think it would have been too much of a chore to remove the lump off the bottom, especially if the power supply was made external and sat in a little white box under the desk or something. Spoken to someone who owns it and had the other iMac previously, and he agrees about the speakers being worse on the new model. It's a shame really seeing as Apple are pitching the thing as a "media hub".

Of course the speakers on the new iMac are worse than the previous generations'. They're internal for a start.

The thick bottom part of the screen is one of the minus points of the new iMac. But it has the huge advantage of having a exponential power increase over the iMac G4 for about 80 pounds cheaper, which I'm pleased about
