    I don't get this.

Just been over to http://forums.macrumors.com/ and with reading the thread about the rumoured iMac G5 updated specks. Now I am planning on getting the 20” model but I’ve been holding out for a better GPU. Now if the TS leaked specs are true apple are going to put a 128mb 9600 in there.

To be honest if that is going to be the GPU upgrade for the iMac I’m totally under whelmed! With cards not that far away running a 32 pipeline architecture or even the current crop running 16 pipes putting a 4 pipe card in a £1300 computer is just criminal.

I can understand that heat would be and issue but at the very least the iMac should be shipping with a 9600XT, 6200 /6600 or a mobility chip. None of those would produce enough heat to be and issue.

But what I found most amusing that that 80% of people there are ecstatic about getting and updated card that is sometimes even slower than the 5200 ULTRA.

But for most mac users this isn't an issue. It's not a gaming machine by any means, and I doubt many will feel that it is underpowered. it may be upgraded for all the bells & whistles that Tiger brings, but probably not with gamers in mind.

Granted, but for that kind of cash the option should be there. Besides with core image and video faster GPU’s will help with the longevity of the machine.

Regardless of that though my point was about how so many people considered the 9600 a massive upgrade which is debateable at best.

if it is a 9600, it will most likely be a 9600 XT which is the minimum for core image to work nicely in osx tiger.
