Apple's and printing over the network.

Ok, I've had my pb 12in for a couple of days now and I've hit a few snags but the most serious of these is that I can't use my printer over the network.

The printer is an HP 1350 All in One, it has mac and pc support. It is hooked upto my pc and I can print fine from any pc's on the house network but not the mac.

The powerbook printer options can find the printer over the windows network but the only drivers for it are generic ones not the hp 1300 series one. I've tried printing to it when hooked up directly and thats fine its just over the network.

Any idea's? I tried hp support online but its windoze only

I've had something similar with my canon i990, spots it on the network, then tries to use some bog standard generic printer driver, rather than the specific mac driver (that works stanalone on the mac)

I'm guessing it's actually something to do with OS X rather than the drivers?

UNIX trickery may help. in windows, it ought to be possible to export the printer as something else (a raw socket printer or somethign like that), which CUPS can talk to fine

Hmm, can't say I've had a problem. I use a Laserjet on our uni network and so long as the machine that the printer's connected to is switched on, it all works...

    heard back from hp...

    Hello Gordon,

Thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard's Customer Care Center.

We understand from your e-mail that the PSC 1350 can not be added on a network with USB Printer Sharing.

The PSC 1350 was designed as an USB-only printer and as such is not supported over a network with USB printer sharing. This
configuration may work with third-party software however HP does not support it. We apologize for the inconvenience. The forums on
the Apple web site are a good resource for such information.

We have provided a URL that lists the HP printers supported on a Macintosh network:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...dlc=en&lang=en
    Totally useless!!!

I've tried all manner of different drivers none of which worked. I will just grin and bear it for the time being and when the time comes for a new printer I will look into one that will work.
