where is the best place to pick up a second hand G4 with screen? also do normal pc screens work on macs? and what sort of spec should we be looking for with say £650?

Normal pc monitors work fine on macs

check the bacl pages of mac user for second hand deals. Also check the refurb store on apple own webby, itso nly open on a wednesday, and may be a more than you want to pay
