Reinstalling

As some of you may know I've got a Powermac G3 here to sell.

Unfortunately it's got some of my dad's friend's files on it, etc. So I was wondering if anyone Mac-savvy can go through step by step how to do the equivalent of reformatting and reinstalling Mac Os 8.whatever?

I have a disc here with "Apple Macintosh CD" and "PowerMac G3" written on it... Is this the OS disc? If not, where do I get one?

Kinda urgent guys...

Erk ,sorry. Normal,y it will say on the disk what to do. But either start up with the disk in the drive and the C button held down, or if that doesnt work, press and hold down the option key (between apple key and ctrl key) until the list of boot drives is selected, and then select the cd drive

That isn't working...

There's like a huge mark down the middle of this MacOS disk and I think that's what's preventing it from working, and giving me a disk error when trying to open it within the MacOS.

So what do I do now? Can I download a version of MacOS from somewhere or what?

I'd imagine so, but I could not reccommend it as it is illegal?. Do you have another Mac with software you could install?

Downloading another copy of it isn't really illegal due to you owning a valid licence of the software, and still only owning one actual copy of the software.
