I have been reading all over the net that you don't need to defrag a mac due to the file system, is this true?

I would presume so, as it catalogues everything on the harddrive like a great big filing system, hence the quick search.
However you can always 'repair file permissions' and taht can help solve a few minor problems.

The joys of a proper file system
The general rule of thumb is that every time you install a new app/update is to do a permissions repair, but it's more a preventative measure more than anything else..

Apparantly there is a utility called OnyX available on the Apple site. You may find this useful too http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25668

Onyx works awesome, its what i use. It allows you repair premisions and general clean up stuff.
Funnily enough I used that yesterday, and it's sped up my mini quite a bit.Originally Posted by Lowe
