    Macbook Pro - not impressed.

Well, I'm sat here with a 15" 2.16ghz MBP, gig of ram... and I'm not happy.

First of all, the heat. I poo poo'd the heat issue thinking they can't be that bad, but OMG - I'm sat here typing and I can't keep my hands on the case for that long, it's really that hot.

Next up, all the programs I use on a day to day basis don't work. I've fallen foul of the PowerPC / Intel incompatibility, which I know is my fault - I should of checked versions and compatibility but I really didn't think it would be that much of a problem. Cubase SX, Final Cut Pro.. nothing, won't work. I can't even select run with Rosetta, since the option doesn't appear on the icon!

Apart from that, it seems nice - but apart from looking like a smaller version of the useful 17" Powerbook sat to my right, I'm not happy at all.

Ok, the strangest thing just happened - it started working fine after a reboot.. It seems to be 'emulating' since it's way down on power which is a shame, but at least the app is running. I'm not so unimpressed now, though a properly written version of Cubase SX for Intel mac would be interesting to see...

Damn right. I'm soooo tempted to whip her open and re-do the thermal grease but work would kill me if it died!

im a bit disappointed with my macbook (non pro) not being able to play half life 2 or counter strike source.

i start half life 2, and when it autosaves it crashes
when i start counterstrike source the screen turns black and i cant see anything

i have updated to the latest intel gma chipset drivers to no avail pretty disappointed imho, hopefully a fix will come through ?

also i want the isight to work in windows

muddyfox: tried gaming via bootcamp? am assuming you were playing those games on OS X, but don't laugh if you weren't - I dunno what the availability of them is on mac.

Lowe, you got dirty marks where your hands have been on the plastic yet? and if you want to solve the spongy mouse button problem a little pit of paper inserted underneath should sort it.

Also, have you looked for a bit of clear plastic that might be covering the air vents at the back? might cut the heat build up

    Bet you're using xp.

It only gets allocated 64mb ram IIRC, so, if you install vista, it gets 224mb, and half life 2/css is meant to work...

Aye that's what i thought, but people who've installed vista automatically get given 224mb for the graphics.

That's ****ing disgusting, for such a high end product, it's amazing the bloody things work at all!

I wonder if they have a throttling system in place if they get too hot - if so, I bet you rarely get the full performance you'd expect!

Hottest I've seen it get so far is 78c, though the other one I've got at work hit 82c! I picked the cooler of the two for obvious reasons!

I'm waiting for universal versions of the software I use before I drop kick it out the window, because it really is a quick machine, but the heat.. oh the heat!
