how come G5s sell for so little on ebay?

    hi

    saw links like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...&category=4607

    a buy now of £1250 for a dual 2ghz, 9800pro, superdrive, 160gb hdd, w/ 23inch display???

my pc in my sig cost nearly £2000. granted i have a raptor, dual 120s, but why do they go for so much less than on apple.co.uk? at that price, i wish i'd got an apple and put yellow dog on it!

is that so bad - i.e. is it a scam? i guess you would probably lose the warranty, but thats always a risk.

that said, with my student discount (I can get £300 off a g5!), a g5 would have been in my price range anyway.

    bah!

with hindsight, comparing a brand new price of £2000 PLUS display vs a buy now of £1250, its a def. scam.

    lil bit niave, sorry.

they also ask you to pay by western union 'as its safe' actually its completely the opposite, i think 'western unioin' + 'scam' + google will bring some interesting stories the only way i would consider getting one of these things is by going over there, testing it and physically picking it up, not what the seller wants, obviously. i was thinking of trying some foreign ebay sites for cheap macs and seeing if any were for sale in the UK though

Western Union has no come back what so ever and is basically the next most unsafe method of paying next to sending unrecorded cash.

Another thing to watch is that they say they accept all methods, then when it ends they claim that they can now only accept Western Union.

Basically if I ever see Western Union in an auction I stay well away. I managed to get eBay to close down over £8000 worth of auctions at the start of the year, mostly laptop ones.

Right, I've deleted the pointless stuff from this thread- please dont harass a guy for reading a post wrong.

Yes, these are scams, the people will usually contact you and ask you to deal with them away from eBay, and by using Western Union there is no recourse from you. Things to look out for are: The highest specs with the biggest monitors, and pictures all taken from apple.
