    Vista Beta 2 on Macbook??

    Hey,

Well i'm finally going to get around to installing Vista Beta 2 tonight (its been sitting in its envelope since june lol), and rather than simply replacing the CTP build on my PC, i'm considering putting it on my macbook (none pro) to see how it runs..just out of interest.

I've found some instructions for the MBP: http://guides.macrumors.com/Vista_Beta_2_on_Macbook_Pro which seem simple enough, and I think I could apply them to my macbook ok..just wondered if anyone else has tried it yet?

If so any problems so far? Would be nice to see it running well on it, the macbook more than meets the specs and I think the GMA950 can cope with glass, so we'll see

So anyone else tried it? Or anyone know of any decent guides/resources I can look to before I try it?

    cheers

Well it's installed =) Forgot to take many install pics but i guess its just the same as installing it on a PC (looks wise).

It runs nicely - had to install 2 drivers manually (sound+wlan), and select the correct video driver..but other than that no problems. Runs faster than XP I would say, with aero glass turned on..looking beautiful.

    Here's how I installed it:

    1) Use bootcamp to create a 15gb partition
    2) Insert Vista DVD, and reboot holding the option key
    3) Select the Vista DVD to boot from
    4) standard Vista setup - get to the partitioning stage
    5) delete the first partition (200meg)
    6) re-format the 15gig partition you made (the last one usually)
    7) Carry on with the vista install to that 15gig partition, until the first reboot
    8) You will get an error on boot here, looks pretty fatal - but its not To fix it reboot your macbook off the vista DVD again, and start setup - but this time click on 'system recovery options' and do a system recovery..takes a couple of mins and then your mac will reboot again, and setup will continue.
    9) Almost done...setup user accounts etc, and your in vista.
    10) Drivers next - wired lan works out of the box, so to get Wlan working you need to do a windows update..so plug in a cat5e and run windows update - get all updates that you see.
    11) reboot again and you now have wireless
    12) next step is to get aero working. goto device manager, and find the video adapter (it will probably be a standard VGA driver at the moment). Update this driver, choose from a list and unselect the compatability thing. Look for Intel drivers, and you want this "Intel Lakeport driver WDDM". reboot again, and you can now select aero glass from the themes menu
    13) ok, last bit now - sound drivers. Insert the bootcamp driver CD, open the start menu, and type 'run' in the search window. Open run when it appears, and type this:

    "D:\Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" /A /v

(where D:\ is your dvd drive)

Go through the setup - this will unpack all the mac drivers to your HD. Then find the sigmatel drivers from that folder and install. reboot and your finished

Thats as far as I have got, there are still no trackpad drivers so right-click doesn't work without a USB mouse, and there are also 4 drivers that vista wants but cant find...for unknown devices. Still its very very usable, and with an external mouse its great Will install some games later and see how it goes, and office 2007..

I wouldn't worry about the drivers it can't install. If its anything like my iMac they're supposed to be there. One is my iSight. Not sure about the others, but i have 1 PCI Device, 1 USB Device, and 2 Unknown Devices.

Now, anyone know how to get my iMac triple-booting OSX, XP & Vista?
