    Price check: Powerbook G4

I purchased a powerbook last year, I don't use it much anymore, I normally use the main comp and need some money for uni so need to sell something, so the PB has to go

    Specs:

    1.67Ghz Powerbook
    512Mb Ram
128Mb Radeon 9700 (Upgraded at time of purchase)
    8 x Superdrive DVD/RW
    80Gig HDD
    15.4" Widescreen
    Backlit Keyboard
    Airport Extreme WiFi
    Mac OSx 10.4.7 "Tiger"
    iWorks '05

It's in good condition, with one dead pixel, no box but i've still got the manual's cables inc. power supply and cd's. Tiger is boxed.

How much would you say I could get for it?
    Thanks.

I would say, around £600 depending on condition/warranty etc.

I sold my 15" pb on ebay recently and that went for 565, and that was a 1.25superdrive model with 3months warranty remaining.

Part of the problem you've got is the price of the new macbooks is very competitive.

I'd sell it sooner rather than later too, if the Merom MBP announcement comes in next month as expected you'll probably lose another £50-100 from that..

That's not too bad, I guess, it's lost so much value tho! I must have paid 1500 for it last year.

On a side note, is there any way to close the laptop up yet still have the machine running and displaying on an external screen?
    Cheers for the quick replies.

yep, you need to have a keyb and mouse, plus screen obviously, plugged in, then shut the lid.

You may need to press the space bar to wake from sleep.

OK prob not worth selling it then, it seems a little slow, if I was to add another 1Gb (I've got a 512 stick in there already) to make it 1.5GB RAM, would that make it noticably faster? It seems a little slugish when opening program's and doing more than a few tasks.

I think i might get the apple wireless keyboard and plug the laptop into my samsung 930BF, think that'll make me use it more. With that keyboard can I use the laptop closed?

you *can* (might involve some hacks though, not sure for pbooks) but I would strongly advise against it if you ever want to use your laptop as a laptop

Most modern laptops are designed so that you cant use them with the lid down for a reason - the heat. When the screen is closed its right against the case - which is producing alot of heat. This heat can and will damage the screen over time..it's not worth the risk and I don't think applecare would cover it

Ok then, but if I added say an extra 1Gig of ram, which i've found for about £94 from kingston memory, would that make it a lot faster.
Or would I be better off saving the money on that and upgrading my pc down the route of the conroe!?
