Hey,
I've got a 3rd generation IPOD and was wondering if it is possible to hook it up to a laptop using USB. Or am I going to have to buy a firewire to usb wire.
Thx

Signature is 57 % complete. Please check back later.
You need the USB 2/Firewire cable, which is sold seperately. I believe it costs around £17.
As far as I know there is no firewire to usb. But if you find it let me know. As Aaron says, for the laptop you can use the firewire that cames plus the adaptor or the cable that has both connections. Now in Christmas easy to find in HMV and the like, same price as Apple
Do you mean USB 1.1 or USB 2.0?Originally posted by Rory

If USB 2.0 then you can get a replacement dock connector for it. If it's USB 1.1 I think it will still work but be painfully slow.
Or you could get a firewire card for the laptop.
I had the same problem,
i have had to buy a firewire card for the pc as every where was sold out. plus it was cheaper than the usb.
I then remote on to the pc via wireless lan.
My 'pod doesn't charge over USB2, is this right or do I just suck?
It should charge assuming that you're connecting it to your computer, it won't charge attached to a laptop
iPods don't charge over usb anyway, that was one of the new innovations for the iPod mini..

According to my instruction book you should be able to with the USB/Firewire conversion cable, if your laptop is a PC. If its a Mac, Apple specifically state you must have built in firewire. Why is this, has anyone been able to run an iPod on a Mac that doesn't have built in Firewire?
