Nah... actually the European flight test is easier.
It's just the £697 in examiners fees for each one....

The expensive Euro ones are for the commercial licence and the instrument rating. The others are cheaper.
All the checkrides in the US are about $300, and it all goes to the examiner, rather than the government. I've done 5 so far, with another one for may instructor certificate coming this week. That will let me teach people to fly!
