    sony headunits.. aux input

Anyone else have a sony? because I found out something yesterday...

    it has resulted in this

The wires you see out the back, soldered directly to the pcb. The circuit is a small microcontroler.
Parts cost under £2 and took almost no time to make.

    What is it and why....
Sony headunits will only work with sony cd/md changers. The bus/aux input on the back is useless without one - which im sure they dont tell you when you buy it. Sony make a cable to connect other devices, but it costs more than a new headunit. Its almost like buying a car, taking it to supermarket then find youcant get anything but french imported food in the boot.

This circuit will be hidden away behind the dashboard so all that I will see is the cable plugged into my mp3 player. This is a lot nicer than using crappy transmitters... on a dodgy radio that has parts fall off round fast corners

Now I am just waiting for my gigabeat to arrive in the post (if they ever dispatch it...)

And where i found out how to do this:

    Thought I would update this...

The front of the main pcb on the headunit was never insulated properly. There was a plastic sheet covering about 80% of the metal casing/pcb, but not at the front where it is most needed. It shorted since the case was a tiny bit bent - right next to a connector, which could have happened quite easly before i took it apart (and probably why the radio hasnt worked for a long time). Its not compleatly dead, the menus still work, and it still bleeps with the menus, cd still spins, but no music comes out.
It was definatly 100% not caused by the soldering I did on it, just bad design...

So what do I replace it with...? not a sony.

The circuit is not gonna be used if anyone wants it (will require stealing a unilink connector from somewhere or soldering 5 wires to the back of pcb...)

Yeah, im looking for a new (non-sony) headunit myself to replace my second dieing MD unit with a MP3 based one.

Ive acutally been looking at one of these:
    http://www.unbeatablegadgets.co.uk/s...roducts_id=160
    - There cheap as chips, and fairly nasty looking.
    - However a whole shed load of people have been going on about how good they are. So im tempted to give it a go.

Only thing im worryed about is that quality of the navigation if i hook it up to my 40gb iRiver and try to navigate 7000tracks.
    - Also the fact that it will almost certinaly not wire upto the stalk next to the stearing whell (pug 306)

    Maximum Output Power: 40W x 4

    My rear speakers are 50w
Now I would say this is ok as long as I dont have it near full, those speakers have probably never seen 40w since I owened the car.
Going to have a proper look at others but think I would be happy with this one.

But dont see why you would need the stalk, has a remote with it, but still whats wrong with pushing buttons on the front?

Navigation should be through the iriver. The idea of navigating a hdd mp3 player through a basic 1 line lcd is incredibly stupid...

Confused about the lack of sockets/cabling on the back... I see a RF or remote in + AUX in, and a possible ISO type connector

Notice the 4 pages of sony (and no other brand) cd changer leads, £50 each

Yeah, i just like being about skip track without taking my hands of the wheel or looking at anything.

I could just navigate it from the iRiver, but if i was doing that i could just get any other headunit with a line in.
    - Which might just be what i end up doing.
