Passed Test! And an Insurance Question...

Well I passed my driving test on Friday, woohoo!

2nd time, 3 minors, so relieved

Anyway I wasn't planning on getting a car because I'm off to uni in Sep/Oct, but now i have a license I can't resist!

So if i get a car, I will be insured in my mums name, so she can drive it aswell, and i expect i will pay it monthly.

my question is, when i go to uni, can i change the policy so that only my mum is insured, and i am removed as a named driver? If so, will the monthly payments then go down accordingly?

    ta for any help

yes and yes. however, consider insuring it in your name, and if you can afford the premium keep it on, as when you leave uni, you'll be left with 3 years no claims (assuming your mum isnt a terrible driver) and as such wont be in the situation I am, where im getting stupid quotes for anything bigger than a hairdryer

Easiest Way to build up no claims?

Do your CBT, buy a moped (£200 nothing fancy) insure it 3rd Party and leave it in your garage. Leave uni, you have 3 years no claims, and the insurance over 3 years will at most have cost you a grand, a hell of a lot less than you'd be paying on a car.

That idea of Dave87's will be like 'money in the bank ' to you and you'll save a fortune by not have to waste money on fuel.

Bike insurance isn't always transferable to a car policy, so be careful with that one...

Some companies offer deals where all teh named drivers can accrue no claims years, such as Direct Line. I always find direct line to be expensive though.

Slightly off subject, but... Elephant were always cheapest for me, but as me and the missus both have a car, the Admiral multi-car deal worked out cheaper.

    My System: Coolermaster Centurion 5 (black) case, Intel E6750 Core2Duo, Tagan Easy-Con 530W, Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI, OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC, Samsung SpinPoint 200Gb SATA2 / 2 x Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200Gb SATA, 256Mb Sapphire ATI PCI-E X1950PRO, Creative X-Fi Xtreme 7.1, 19" Daewoo W9ZQ Black Widescreen TFT, 4Mb Virgin Cable Broadband (formerly Blueyonder) with Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G and DD-WRT firmware.
