    Ice

    Right.....

I have now got the head unit fitted (not mounted but it is working so I finally have sound)

In my car there are 2 headrest speakers in each seat and they can be easily replaced however only with the right size, so I will order some from the company who makes them.

Now, to the doors - they are 16.5CM across

    http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_...&type=0&cat=43

Those speakers fit if you drill a holl

    See: http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/mx5forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3812

But, can you recommend any others which will give better audio? I can't stand tinny sound!

If you really really dont want to cut another hole in your door trim then focal do a co axial - this is not a "2 way " speaker
Its just the same kit k, but with a built in tweater mounting
It still has a seperate crossover and should sound pretty good

    http://ice.dndservices.co.uk/shop_sh..._cat_index.php

edit: make sure you have 73mm of mounting depth

One thing you need to look at aswell, is how much depth you have. (Sometimes doors don't give you that much space to work with.) The first set of sony's you showed from halfords aren't very deep at all and are designed that way to fit most cars easily. Now I imagine the other two sets you showed, might be a bit thicker in depth, so i would just have a look and see how much depth you have to play with! Usually the better sounding the speaker, the thicker it is!

I have not heard the last two sets of speakers posted but I have heard the first set, the XS-A1726's. And to be honest they don't sound bad at all! Quite good in my opinion!

The best thing to do is pop down to halfords and annoy the sales people there by going through each set of speakers listening to how they sound, then get the guy to get a set out for you to measure the depth.

Forget components for this car.....I dont know if you'll have it that long.....if someone offers you proper money for it in Spring you'll flog it....so I think the KENWOODS from EMPIRE
    http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/produc...C1789IE&clear=

on the presumption they'll fit, and as long as you seat them on summit solid with a fraction of "give" to settle them nice and solid, and that will also make them more airtight in there position....then you're sorted.

The entire hole around where the speaker sits should be fitted airtight to the back of that speaker.

SO first fit it to make sure all is well, and that all the holes are where you need them. Then take it back off.

Then get something to seal it.....like really really dense foam. Cut it to a perfect fit....so it goes all around the diamter of the hole....and so the screws still go into the holes...THEN screw that speaker on TIGHTLY...so it PUSHES into the foam, and makes an airtight seal.

If the speakers vibrate or let sound out from behind them, you're wasting your dough.

Then you'll probably have to set balance slightly to the RIGHT...even though its near to you, its no where NEAR AIMING at your ears...but the left speaker will be much better postioned to fire the sound at you.

    tadaaaa

    job done
