Unhappy Peg 306, wobbling gearstick problem/Shuddering car.

Hi, This forum seems quite decent so I will say Hi and get on with my question

I have noticed this developing problem with my Peugeot 306 XRDt over the last few weeks.

Its a very strange issue which I will try to explain, any help would be great.

Firstly, the problem is not noticable from a cold start, it takes about 2 hours of driving before the problem becomes noticable.

While accellerating on flat ground or DOWN a slight incline, when in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear (approx 60-70mph), the car starts shuddering slightly.
I do NOT feel anything in the steering wheel.
Then at a certain point, the gear stick starts wobbling up and down (3rd gear is the worst), it sometimes does this quite violently to the point I think it will pop out of gear.
Then as i get faster the wobbling stops.

The strange thing is the problem is not totally repeatable, sometimes it does not so this, and Like I said, it takes at least 2 hours for this problem to start.

I have already taken it to a garage who replaced a rubber mounting for the front left wishbone which had broken. The mechanic thought this may be the problem but I now feel this was a consequence of the initial vibrating problem.

Has anyone got any suggestions, I can give more info if needed

    Danny

Is it when you are accellerating from low revs (eg 1000rpm - 1500rpm) in a higher gear? or does the same thing happen when you are accellerating at around 3000rpm?

If when low rpms, then could be clutch slipping, and you should be able to avoid it by changing down a gear before accellerating.

Could be something completely different, but reminds me of my deisel when I was accellerating in 5th gear from 1000rpm.

    Hi, thanks for reply.

No I dont think this is the issue. It wobbles when at medium revs, in second and third gear especially.

It wobbles when accellerating from a standstill. but also when accellerating more while in motion.

the time thing is confusing me... could be something like clutch heating up, causing it to slip more?

But you say it gets to the point of it almost poping out of gear.. could it be the gearbox oil, after a long use begins to disapear somewhere - sprayed around gearbox, not neccaserily a leak, becuase you would notice that on the floor.. possibly means oil is a bit low, but slowly returns after a while of not driving.

Or just worn gearbox/something in there not aligned correctly

Will it continue to do this in neutral after it starts?
    Or up hill? Or decerlating?

Hi, thanks again for the more suggestions.

I will repost the question of the gti6 forum today.

"Will it continue to do this in neutral after it starts?"
No, the wobbling only happens when accellerating.
for some reason it does not wobble badly when accellerating up a hil (though you would expect it to), its when on flat ground or on a slight decline.

when i decelerate, the problem compleatly goes, so this leads me to believe its related to the engine/drive/transmission somewhere and NOT the wheel alignment etc.
