Question Anyone ever seen a speed camera in a garage??

I was on the way to the Mall on the outskirts of bristol with the girlfriend and we were driving on a small section of road where the limit is 50 and there are two lanes. As you go up the hill there is a shell(i think?) garage on the side of the road.

I noticed as I got near it there was a double flash coming from the right hand side of the building and looked closer. To my surprise I saw what can only be described as a speed camera box???

Now I'm not worried about being caught as I was well under the limit and it was facing the wrong way without the road markings, I was just really confused as to why it was there?? Both myself and my girlfriend couldnt work out why it was there.

I off that way tommorow so I will try to take some piccies to explain better.

    Anyone else seen this before?

Do you mean the speed camera was actually on the garage forecourt facing out to the road? Or on the side of the building or something?

    WTF
Its pointing directly towards the pumps
Unless its Shell having a laugh - with a normal CCTV camera - unless its for people speeding through the petrol station.
    Youve got me interested now

But its useless as a speed camera as the forecourt is not a public highway so the speed limits dont apply. The only thing I can guess it would be for is for recording drivers who leave without paying but there is no way the camera could tell who to photograph. The only other option is that it would take pics of everyone leaving but the camera is in the wrong position for that.

    I'm more confused now

It points down the road though, by the looks of it. So it could be taking photos of cars speeding on public roads.....

That's a camera for catching people who don't pay then drive off mate. Nothing to worry about.

It's actually the camera they use for traffic lights, just wired up so that the trigger is on the road leading out.

Nah, that's pointing over the forecourt. It must be to record number plates of drivers who don't pay. Wasn't there talk of a new system that would automatically read number plates and compare it with a list of those previously recorded to have not paid? It could be something to do with that.

Very weird though if not. Go in and ask them, I would!

But it wouldnt get everyone its in the wrong place. The angle is wrong for reading every1's number plate and it doesnt flash all the time only sometimes

if it was for getting non payers it would need to be round on the right hand wall covering the exit

He is right, its a non-paying plate capture camera.

All Shell garages around here have them as well and being the sort of person I am I went in and asked
