The official "OMG What The Hell is That Noise?" Thread

Ok, so for the past few weeks my car seems to have developed an irratating squeek somewhere on the front.... was occasional at first, but now happens pretty much everytime I drive it....its driving me nuts.

I could take it in to a garage, but there arent any decent trust worthy ones near me, and Id rather fix it myself if someone can help me pinpoint possible reasons. Its already been to a garage once and they tried to tell me the squeek was normal...?

    So, specific details:
I drive a 96 plate 2l Rover 620. The squeek occurs pretty much everytime i drive, regardless of speed, but doesnt get louder at all - 30mph or 60mph the squeeks the same volume. However, the squeek stops when I brake....so if i accelerate to 60 itl be squeeking all the way, but if i then brake very lightly so I V.slowly loose speed it makes no noise at all.... so the problem area is obviously around the front wheels somewhere.

This is probably an obvious thing to knowledgable car folk, hence why Im asking here

So any ideas? hints tips or fixes?

Ok I had this problem on my Zafira only a week or 2 ago.

Ended up my rear brakes were sticking mking the fronts go slightly on enough to cause the squeak. Once they were released cleaned and re-greased (the rears) I've not had the squeak.

Other options could be a bearing or cv joint but I'd check out all the brakes first.
