    Car Suggestions

My dad is thinking about another car. Currently has a 2.0 Astra Diesel 04 plate. Looking for something around the £10K mark, doesn't have to be new. Two suggestions have been a Focus ST170 and a Golf GT TDi.

Thing is seats are important, he has a slip disk in his back. He can sit fine in Ford seats (leather). I know its going to be a suggest a car, try the seats thing! Nothing too big, or French.

    Any ideas?

If he wants comfort then a cruising/small exec car would be hes best bet. 10Kish could get him a Mondeo ST TDCi or ST220 if fuel economy isn't a concern.

One suggestion though, if he has a slipped disc are cars with sports suspension really the best idea?

Sad though but if you want a comfortable ride a C6's suspension and seating is the way to go

Is the reliability as much of a concern on the newer ones? I think C6s are ace

As GrahamGarside said, if he has a bad back I don't think a car with a har ride like the ST is the way to go. Maybe a normal Focus if that's the sort of car he likes?

Rover 75? they were meant to be very comfortable, and therefore didn't sell very well as buyers wanted something a little sporty!

However, I don't know anyone who has one, so no idea if the reliability is better than the image. Didn't the diesel one have the BMW engine?

Aside from suspension, you can always change the seats and put in lumber support or whatever to make it comfortable. It would widen the choice of cars, although it would need to be put into the budget.

He seems OK in my Focus, I have Koni Suspension which is a lot tougher than normal. I think the ST170 has Einbach no? Bit softer than my Konis. Seat is more important than ride. I did mention the Subaru, but he pointed out he would go out for a drive and my car would be left instead of that. Hehe.

The Mondeo would be ideal, I did suggest it, he feels to big. Comfort to you and me will probably be different for him. Like I said, I'll probably get him to sit in the recommendations. The C6 is TOOOOO big! LOL!

He would like something with oommph ...

An ST TDCi isn't massive, bigger than a focus but it's fast and still knocks out decent fuel economy, plus those things are designed to be sat in all day long.

The most supportive seats I've ever been in are the leather sports ones that come in E46 3 series. So I'm gonna suggest a 320d.
