Question Rover 75- what do you think?

I have just agreed with a seller to buy a used rover 75, a 2000 model, 1.8l, with over 80000 miles on it for around £2000. I wonder what others think of this car. I read reviews before buying but would like to reassure myself that I have done the right choice.

Re: Rover 75- what do you think?

Very good car developed by BMW using a lot of E39 5 series technology. From what I know on the particular model you are referring to, the head gasket was a weakness on that type of engine (at least when used in an MGF and Freelander) and the image of the Rover 75 does not do it any favour. Still a good car IMHO.

Re: Rover 75- what do you think?

Drove an early 2.0 V6 many times.
Rather enjoyed it. Comfy, relaxing though not huge inside but a decent car. Trim was a little flimsy around the doors but it was one of the first off the line so I forgave it.
Dash is a bit plain without satnav but all in all a fine motor.

Re: Rover 75- what do you think?

I think if they'd gone for a contemporary design (rather than the 1970's high-sided retro look) and not called it the '75' (conjures up images of flat caps and a slight smell of wee) the car would have sold in much greater numbers. I like them though, and for the money it sounds like you have a fairly good deal...

Re: Rover 75- what do you think?

Probably the best car Rover over built in terms of fitness for purpose. Effortlessly wafts up and down Motorways with ease, and proper bargains at the prices they are now. A rare Gem.

Not very related to the E39 5 Series though - infact the shared components come from the E46 3 Series in the form of things like the navigation system and diesel engines.

I read somewhere about some switch gear and the transmission. Could be wrong!

Re: Rover 75- what do you think?

Guess that makes us both right as E46 uses the same tranmission as the E39.

Agreed keep a close eye on the head gasket if you are using one with the same k-series engine. My dad just managed to get rid of his before it blew, bill was going to be £2500 but the car was only worrth £6000
