    Probably not the first!

Hi, im new to the forum xD. Just found it because i am searching for a first car.

I am 17 years old and busy learning to drive. I didnt used to be intrested in cars, until i started learning how to drive, but, now i love it !
But seing as i had no intrest before i do not know where to start/do anything about buying a first car.
(i also have no money saved as of yet, so its all going well )

So, my plan is to save from £ 800-1000 for the car itself. Not including any of the other stuff.

What car would be a good first car for this price range??
Would prefer a diesel and a good cheap one to run, as i am only 17 so the more economic the better as i am not rich...

I also would like the car to look nice, none of this crazy bubble looking stuff. Just nice curves.
Hatchback would be nice but is not a must, i just think they look nicer.

Also any other tips/links about buying cars not from a big company, as i duno how to look to see if they are going to break down in 20 miles.

Please give me the time for even a little comment

    Thanks

The insurance is going to be the biggest consideration at your age, make sure you look into how much that is going to cost before you get to set on a particular model.

Yeah, but im going to do pass plus so that should lower it a bit right? And i will be 18/19 by the time i get all the cash so my age will lower it to.

I would say £2000 for car and insurance??? Or around that mark

    Re: Probably not the first!

Cheap-wise.. you're probably better going for a small petrol car - they're more economical overall unless you're doing silly milage (servicing etc.).

Also to get any kind of poke out of a diesel it has to be turbo-charged, something that will hit the insurance just for the name, even though if it's not a turbo for performance reason.

With that in mind, you're probably best going for the good old fiesta - cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, cheap to insure, cheap to tax. Fuel isn't the best, but it's far from the worst either, and the money saved elsewhere is more likely to be greater.

Lol every other chavved up dustbin exhausted, tea tray holding car around here is either a Corsa or a Saxo, notably Corsa's though.

As for cheap and chearful, a Fiesta is always a good bet, cheap parts and anyone can work on them. I had an N reg Citroen AX 1.1 as my first car, was actually a great little car, nippy, cheap to insure and went miles of off the sniff fuel.

Car to avoid = older Puntos, fall apart when they are old.

    Re: Probably not the first!

    Loads to choose from.
    Older Polo's (pre-1995) take first-driver abuse well (I had 2 over 6 years and 100k miles), Fiesta's, Corsa's all very doable.

Japanese cars will last longer but cost more to insure so are probably not an option.

If you fancy anything French or Italian look for the most basic spec and avoid any with electric gubbins such as windows. They will probably break at the price we're talking.
