    thst used to be me....

I then went out on a the back of my sales managers Fireblade and was so shocked by car drivers...I changed.

Re: Fast lane? What fast lane?

To all drivers sat in the outside lane gradually catching the next Van/Volvo:

When you see the car behind catching it's not just your speed that matters. If you allow a catching driver to pass before you force him to slow down there's a fair chance he'll be past before you need to be in position to overtake. Space allowing of course.
If it's me and I see it'll be close call I temporarily increase my speed to make sure it's not and I don't impeed your progress because you've been kind enough not to impeed mine.

While driving should be about good skill and judgement it's often the bad experiences that taint our own driving. For instance lane 2 and 3 hogs that do so because occasionally faster cars have inconsiderately boxed them in.
IMO motorway driving above all other types requires the greatest judgement of relative speed. Use your mirrors, always be aware of other traffic and know what it's going to do. Remember there's ALWAYS someone faster than you and you'll always check before pulling out. Understand that 1.1 106 doing 80 will take 4hrs to get back to that speed whether you think they should be there or not so have a heart and don't block them in or pull out in front of them because you don't want to be slowed down, they'll soon pull in and you can be on your way.

One beef I havn't yet noticed here in this type of driving is inconsistant speed. Yes I know you passed me a minute ago because you didn't like me being in front but I'm not slowing down my friend so when you slow thinking you've successfully past another chump I'll just cruise past and keep doing so until you make your blooming mind up! Trust me I don't want to be within 1/2 mile of your back bumper but it doesn't mean I'll back off when you do. Sort it and if you can't buy cruise control and use it!

    GRR

    P.s.
Undertaking - With lane 3 at queuing at 80 that does not constitute a reasonable opportunity to undertake as outlined by the highway code! Can't stand drivers who use that excuse. If your lane is similarily snarled then fair enough.

Oh and if you're in the middle lane and approaching traffic but faster cars are outside you, ASK to move out, they might actually let you! Don't wait till the last moment then slam on the anchors while waving your fist as you get stuck behind another artic, if you don't ask you don't get! (unless it's me outside in which case I've flashed to let let you out before you'd even considered it was necessary)

It's rare I come across a driver like you when on the UK motorway network, but when I do it generally makes my day.

I do it occasionally- occasionally because I'm usually on the inside lane doing 55 to save diesel, and it's me being overtaken.

I'll see your wheel and raise you bits of a caravan which was originally on the other carriageway. The vehicle which was towing it jack-knifed and launched the caravan into the central reservation. End result was bits of caravan being thrown onto lanes 2 and 3 of the on-coming traffic!

Total number of deer/chavs/whatever on the hard shoulder on my side of the motorway during my 23 years driving - 0.
Total number of objects heading my way from the other carriageway - 1.

Lane 1 for me, unless I'm over-taking, no matter what time of night or number of other cars on the road.

    Steve

PS. I was once on the M4 going home from work when a tanker was involved in a crash at junction 10. Police closed the entire motorway and then slowly told the back of the queue to turn round and go back to junction 8/9, down the wrong carriageway. It's the strangest thing, driving down the motorway the wrong way! Which was lane 1? The left hand one, or the one closest to the hard shoulder? No-one was really sure!
