Had to help a neighbour the other day.
Had popped the hood of his new Big Fiesta thingy from inside - but couldn't understand why it wouldn't lift up and wouldn't close. (he didn't know about the catch under the bonnet - I thought all cars had them)
Some people need their driving licences confiscating.
My midget bonnet won't close when dropped.. The mechanisssium just doesn't allow it. So you have to drop and push!
Most modern cars you cannot push anyway. The things are so damn heavy the only option is to drop.
I drop mine, to push on it you have to push really hard now :/ The slam panel is a little bit bent due to a bump :/
Drop from about six inches high.
I'm sure one of my cars has lifters on the bonnet ( possibly my old volvo 360 )

Dropping is good - but don't drop it from too high since you'll put a dent in it. My bonnet is dented on the corners from people slamming it, or dropping it too high!
But yeah, defo don't push on it.
Moby has a point.....gas lifters..BUT on Volvo you kind push BACK., cos it hinges at the front....I think so anyway.
On Vauxhalls with lifters they balance it so it only lifts from half way up....in fact..its one of the only really good things about our cars....we do bonnets well

My front bonnet can be dropped or pushed, I'm not going to dent it either way. It's got a lovely positive mechanism, which is good because one of my tyres has a very slow puncture and my pump lives in the front. My back bonnet OTOH needs a good shove to close, the catch is a bit stiff and the bonnet is pretty light and flimsy.
Rich :¬)
I have to push my engine lid and trunk shut, as they are both sprung. However i just drive about without a bonnet....
Stu
I drop from about 6", let go any higher than that n the lifters just hold it there...
