    My Wallet is empty! (AGAIN)

    • Timing Belt Kit - Idler, Tensioner, Belt.
    • Alternator Belt
    • 2 end caps for the cams... As these are destroyed when you use the locking tool to hold the cams in TDC.

    Total: £125.60

At first after listening to you lot saying, pay £344 cause its a big important job.... I got a bit worried.... But I've done some research about it. ITS NOT A HARD JOB well... not with the right tools. You can buy a Renault Specialised Timing Belt Tool Kit which locks the cams. These are around £60. But since my dad is a tool maker.... he's made a locking tool. We just need to make a pin that is screwed into the side of the engine. Friday afternoon I'm going to go and see a Renault mechanic and take some measurements off the pin My dad is at work on Saturday morning so he'll make one then.

It might seem alot of hassle all this tool making malarky but by doing it this way it means my Uncle who owns a garage has a tool kit to do Renault Timing Belts.

    nice tool......well done matey.

Just got Sair's Laguna 2.0 8 valve cambelt done.....my rallying buddy did it in minutes.....but its an 8 valve...however while I was with him I asked about yours and he said....

"He'll be fine....its just access is tricky....."

So dont forget...you might wanna jack up the front corner and take a wheel off.....to see inside...then turn the steering to get at the bottom bit.

Otherwise.....good as gold. Plus...Renault aint known for ruining tensioners...

    not like Vauxhall

I am so glad Sair has a Laguna and not a Vectra *phew*

I bought a haynes manual the other week so my dad could see what was involved... It'll be on the ramp so i'll remove the wheel and it should be plain sailing.

It might get done on Saturday afternoon if my dad only works half day....

I thought seeing as im not gonna spend £350 on getting it all fitted.... I'll splash out and buy just the renault kit. I could have bought a belt for £20 or so... but I might as well replace it all seeing as we are doing it ourselves.
