    Yeah, and very little air. There's not enough oxygen to get any kind of a fire going. It'll be safe.

    i think you will find that the amount of heat generated by the welder can cause a problem as with heat the will be a expanding and contracting of steel bolt in alloy sump

    has this been sorted out yet?

    Grind a flat edge on, tap around with hammer and chisel. If it doesn't give in to that, someone did it up tooooo tight.

    You got good access to it or is it just jacked up in one corner? It's one of those jobs that's so so easy with a pit and a pain in the arse lying upside down in the rain spitting out the dirt that falls in your face.
