Moved here by me. I know "Question Time" seems like a place to ask questions, but it's actually a place for debate on political issues, current affairs, etc, like the (UK) TV program of the same name, and as per the forum description. So I've moved this here - it's more likely to get a suitable response.
Don't forget that if importing from outside the EU, you'll probably be facing an import tax charge (the rate of which varies hugely and I don't know what it is on motorbikes), and then VAT on top of that. A common import duty rate is about 4%, so you'd be looking at about 22% import duty/VAT if that is the rate. But the import duty could be lower than that or a LOT higher. Make sure before you commit.
Depends on the country and on the type/size of bike.
A good place to start is:
TARIC Consultation
That will let you look up the duty rates - click browse and go through the options to find the engine size etc of the bike first (this gets you a TARIC code), then choose the country your importing from and it will give you the duty %
For example, a 250cc bike from China has 6% duty on it, making a total of £23.50
Thats useful for working out a price - however many importers will do all that for you. I've recently imported a pallet of computer equipment from china, and the company I was dealing with arranged delivery to an airport near me, and then put me in contact with a local shipping agent who delt with paying the vat (and would have paid duty if there was any) and just sent me a bill. This is probably the easiest way to do things
