I love it - especially having seen quite a few in Sicily & Italy at the end of last year. It looks beautiful, fun and sophisticated in the flesh. I also think it's more faithful to the original Fiat 500 than the 'new' Mini, which just looks bloated and bottom-heavy like it's wearing a wraparound plastic nappy.
Don't get me wrong - my first car was a little blue Mini and I LOVED it, and always will. Oh to have had a Cooper! But the new Mini doesn't do it for me.
But tempting as the new 500 is, I will never buy a Fiat again. My last car was a Bravo that totally died with a heavily coked engine and suspected clutch failure, and that's despite regular servicing at a Fiat dealership. I was gutted. It would have cost more to repair than the car was worth. Never again!
No, just no...and again, no.
It looks horrible, its almost as bad as the new shaped Micra for exterior looks (almost), and the interior is just so horribly retro...
It does sound nicely specced, but i'd have to wear a paper bag over my head when driving it around so no-one knew it was me..
BUT what do I know..I bought a french car :hides:
BMW Mini's are horrid things.
Rover Mini's on the other hand are fantastic things to drive. My mum has both. The classic Mini Cooper is great fun, although I couldn't own one. The new Mini CooperS on the other hand is garbage, especially considdering what you pay for them.
I do like the look of this new Fiat. But I agree with Lowe, i think they will be too popular.
I'll take one of those imported Nissans that are based round the Micra, can't remember the name of them though. The main importer of them in the UK won't sellyou one if she doesn't like you
You'd rather have an ancient, overpriced Nissan Micra in a dress than a BMW Mini? Fair enough BMW Minis are excellent to drive, they are not garbage at all. The Cooper S is even better. Great handling and pretty quick. The old Mini isn't without it's charms but it's not something you'd want to drive every day. It's also not just made by Rover
edit: The more I look at the pictures above of the 500, the more I can't stand it!

I know I said I'd rather have a mini, but I didn't state which one. But yea, I was referring to the BMW model. I do however really like the classic mini and wanted one as my first car; they look nice, handle well and have bags of character, but perhaps not very good as everyday cars.
I'm waiting for a test drive - Have been wanting one since it was the Fiat trepiuno concept car in the geneva motor show 2004.
Shame they messed with the concept so much, hope it's as fun as my cinq was to drive but a wee bit more reliable!
/edit/ the new shape suzuki swift still looks better than the mini cooper and fiat 500 combined
Agreed, I'd rather have the new swift before being seen in a mini of 500. Although, I wouldn't spend any of my own cash on any of them to be honest.
