    Calibra Progress *!= 56k*

    Well after having the calibra for a few weeks the headgasket went as most of you probably know!
    Seeing as its off the road at the moment there are major plans for my baby

    First off me and my mate "picked up" the new engine.

    Specs as follows.
    Engine:
    2.5L V6
    3.0 Litre Omega Cams
    4 Bar FPR
    Enlarged Throttle Body
    Enlarged Inlet Manifold
    Lightened Turbo Flywheel (16kg down to 8kg)
    Sachs Turbo Clutch
    Uprated 3.0litre alternator
    Denso Iridium Plugs
    Vectra Alloy Cam Covers
    Piper Sealed Induction Kit

    Exhaust:
    2.5" Straight through decat stainless exhaust With Removable Decat Pipe (and spare cat for mot)
    Irmscher Backbox

    Gearbox:
    F28 6 Speed Gearbox From Calibra Turbo

    Thats all i can remember for the time being specs wise Should see around 200bhp give or take and should sound like a monster

    Ive done quite a few jobs on her already.

    Delocked the door handles (replaced with vectra rear handles)
    Replaced broken door stay on drives door (no more trapped legs )
    Fixed broken speaker wiring
    Added Pioneer headunit

    Now comes to the removing of the engine

    Engine Cover Off, Air Pipes Removed, Battery Removed:

    Removed Inlet + Loads of Wires :

    And thats about where im up to at the moment.

    Ive also purchased a spoiler to go on when shes finished...

    Not that exact one but one exactly the same, proper irmscher.

    Ive got a few major plans for her including a full wide arch kit, full dtm decals and a full respray and bonnet replacement. The alloys are off and ready to be powder coated white

    I also decided to give her a clean so heres some pics of how she stands at the mo

    Re: Calibra Progress *!= 56k*

    right well where to begin, yesterday was the day of the old heave ho.

    Me and dad were going to start around 8am, until i got the news that i was wanted for a job interview and yesterday was the only day they could do it! So off i trundle to Derby for a 7.30am job interview, back at dads at 10, and at mine for 10.30.

    Finally we got started

    Heres how it has been stood for a while, most leads off, exhaust still attached.

    So while dad gets the exhaust off i start on the offside driveshaft.

    Tada!

    Time to help dad with the exhaust, of course its a pain in the **** to get one off with jacks

    Although we persevere and finally had enough and junior hacksaw the rubber mounts

    One exhaust out of the car

    Whilst the car was running it did sound rather blowy... wonder why....

    oh yeah, a big hole in the backbox will do it

    After that off with all the gearbox mounts and any remaining loomage. Once we finished that it was time to get in the crane

    Bit by bit it started coming....

    30 minutes later....

    Leaving this...

    Its harder than it looks pulling a gearbox off a driveshaft when the F25 is so damned heavy! So off with the nearside wheel and hubnut. Slowly but surely we got the driveshaft out the car, and then the driveshaft out of the gearbox.

    And heres how she stands now... looking a bit sad for herself!

    Ive got some other problems with the replacement parts but hopefully will get them sorted before the new block goes in.

    And thats me about knackered aching like crazy now... oh and btw i got a 2nd interview today

    Cheers

    Bill

    Re: Calibra Progress *!= 56k*

    the room for twin tubby is seriously limited, so next time the engine has to come out i think it will be 3.0 litre lump, let pistons and supercharger

    only problem with that is that it's fwd, may have to buy a turbo shell as a project, stick the 3 litre and supercharger in that and have it running 4wd

    Room?
    Is the front of a Mk3 Astra Van bigger then cos theres a guy who did a twin turbo v6 conversion on one of them, theres also a guy running a thurbo'd V6 NOVA!!!
    Not enought space my arse
    Theres a guy on MIG who converted a normal Cally to 4x4, might be worth digging out his thread..

    Re: Calibra Progress *!= 56k*

    Had "One of those days" today

    Decided I was going to wirebrush and paint the calipers with yellow hammerite whilst i've still got a free day. Painting them yellow and getting gold zinc coated discs, should looking good behind the white alloys. So off out to the shed i go, only to find i've left the hammerite at my dads house

    I have ended up going over a lot of parts with some jizer getting rid of all the oil off them due to the oil leak on the old engine Whilst looking for the hammerite I also sort of ended up clearing out the shed so theres more room to work

    At least the day wasn't totally wasted!

    Re: Calibra Progress *!= 56k*

    hehe i wish unfortunately the prop tunnel on the turbo isn't big enough really to properly sustain a rwd prop.

    It has been done before but its far more work than i'd care to put in

    Next car will probably end up being rwd
