    What's the most interesting and stylish (but not wacky) car I could get for £4,000?

    What's the most interesting and stylish (but not wacky) car I could get for £4,000?

    Ideally with decent fuel economy (given the price of petrol at the moment), fairly reliable, nice/nippy to drive around town and fairly refined on the motorway / long distances?

    Hardly going to be reasonably refined on the motorway. Am looking for something more "normal" than a Caterham 7 kit car replica! It's really ugly as well.

    I think you need two cars... "nippy around town" = small car "reasonably refined on the motorway" = medium to large car "£4,000" = not much money.

    maybe an old BMW 3 series compact may fit the bill?

    Nooooo, the Mk1 is much nicer. Pop up lights are still the coolest things you can have on a car.

    (They're not too bad on motorways. Not exactly a luxobarge but acceptable)

    +1 for the MX5 - I had one for a while, but decided to get rid, as I had to park it on the street, and it kept being clipped.....
