    You can get quite a good Cavalier for not much money.

    I bought a beautiful 2 litre GLS on Ebay some time back for £500. One of the last Cavs with the Ecotech 16 valve engine. (Worthy looking out for one of those rather than the 8 valve. Much better fuel consumption and performance.)

    Went like a rocket, I saw 140 on the clock (on private roads obviously ossifer) and got about 35-35 to the gallon.

    Could you not flip the insurance round for a while on the Clio? Make yourself the main driver and put your mum as a named driver? Could be cheaper than running an old banger for a while...

    Naw, she just renewed the insurance unfortunately. I would prefer to have my own car anyway. Right now I don't have any money but six months down the line I should be earning enough to not worry about throwing away a car that cost me £400 or less. 2-3 months depreciation would lose you that much on a nearly new Focus, so I'm hardly getting a bad deal.
