    Oil In Coolant

hi folks, just bought pug306 1.4 1997 .checked oil and coolant befoe buying and all seemed well.following day noticed there was slight oil leak.friend suggested putting "engine stop leak"in for temporary measure.that was ok.then yesterday got the other half to check oil etc and the coolant was like brown mayonaisse!!oil!!car isn't losing any water and temperature gage is fine.whats the lowdown.dont want to spend a lot of money on it as it only cost £720 to buy car.options please?!feeling down about this as it is my first car after passing my test and now this.i knew to expect problems with age and cost of car but not straight away.could the seller have disguised this problem in any way when they were selling?
    thanks

I would guess from what you have said that the Headgasket has gone. Someone else may be able to confirm though.

I doubt the seller could have disguised it, unless they changed all the fluids before you viewed the car. Did you run it on the day?

    Unhappy Re: Oil In Coolant

yeah, ran the car on the day and all seemed fine.just didnt notice the oil leak though.hubby spoke to mechanic friend and he has said that by putting "engine stop leak" in it has cured the oil problem albeit temp but pressure has built up and weakened other component - coolant!he has said that car could run fine as it is forever or not!chance you take!or fix it to tune of £500!don't want to fix it,i have lost my faith in it now, maybe if it was a few months down line fair do but the fact i only had it a couple of weeks and first carmy heart has left it.shame though cos other than that a good looking car in great nick for year

    Re: Oil In Coolant

I wouldnt drive it tbh as you may warp the cylinder head, and that will cost more to put right.

    Re: Oil In Coolant

Sounds fine to me. The stop leak stuff DOES make the coolant look like that.

Drain and flush it a few times and it should be good. Since you only just bought it you should check the coolant and oil levels once a wee or every 500 miles just incase it does have any leaks.

    Re: Oil In Coolant

tbh the Stop Leak shouldn't affect the coolant as you are supposed to add it to the oil, and if the Stop Leak is in the coolant that's a sign that there is already a problem somewhere, those two fluids should never meet!

Might be cheaper mate to find either
a-) 306 that's been smacked up it's backside and written off or
    b-) A complete known engine

Might be cheaper if you are up to doing an engine swap.

ah in that case.... I misread it as the one for coolant leaks.
