ABout having it repaired on the cheap:
Would you have a street graffity boy with a can of paint restore a Rembrandt painting? Probably not. So might be an idea to get it repaired properly then.

its probably not the bargin you guys think it is - i mean if the insurance paid out 1.3m, it must have cost more than 1.3m to repair or the insurance would just have got it repaired.. insurance companies try thier best to save money as the rest of us do.

Thats a good point, although who knows what may have caused the insurance company to do what they did. I doubt the total damage is going to be $1 million And that would presumably including shipping the thing back over to Italy for Ferrari to have a go at??Originally Posted by 5lab
You never know, it may be bought buy an enthusiast or ex-body paneller who reckons they could have a go at repairing it themselves??!!
Its impossible to repair a monocoque carbon fibre bodyshell in your garage mate. Ferarri or some other company thats used to dealing with carbon fibre would have to do it - duct tape and superglue aint gonna repair that - and carbon fibre is unrepairable AFAIK - they would have to make a brand new chassis in its entirity - hence IMHO the reason why the insurance company wrote it off!

Hmmm, thats quite interesting. Is that because of the properties of Carbon Fibre means it cannot just be 'glued' or 'welded' back up?
Would still like to know the cost of repair to one of them things?!
tom - afaik carbon fibre cant really be fixed. the body is probably monocoque which means the whole thing would have to be replaced. if the innards still work it'd probably be nice to stick a different shell on, but i doubt repairing it will be worthwhile

Think of it as being made of glass. If a glass window breaks - u get a new one.

does anyone know where the Enzo has come from (e-bay have taken the item down so I can't read the linked page). As I saw a Ferrari Enzo written off outside the Burj al Arab in Dubai, a silly Russian put his foot down and drive straight over a roundabout, well he got half way before the rocks stopped him

Ahh, rubbish! All you need is a Haynes Manual! That will help to get it sorted!
Is there actually only a limited number of enzo's going to be made ?
Cos if so the parts alone will end up being worth more than the car new itself. A chap I know keeps a warehouse with crash damaged italian sports cars and he can often make more off an engine sale than he paid for the salvage etc
You don't exactly see the non factory parts manufacturers knocking out spare bits
From reading a limited number of 399 were produced (so unless someone sells theirs u aint getting one basically) I've found one up for sale, their asking 610000 Pounds so buying the scrap for 1.3 mill and spending a mill or two could probably still see a profit even on a repaired one.
AFAIK 400 were made, the 1st Enzo of the production line has gone to HQ and is used as a display of how great Ferari are etc. The other 399 have all been sold.
