Trading a car in for a cheaper one?

If I was to trade my car in and lets just say it was worth £4k part ex, and traded it in for a car they had for sale at £2.5k - would the garage buy my car off me? or do they not like doing this kind of thing?

They dont normally like doing this type of thing tbh, however, I recently done the same and got equity back. But, and its a big but, they will probably only offer you the very bottom of bottom part ex prices so the chance of you getting the true £4k is slim.

I'd be better off selling it privately wouldn't I? That way I could sell it cheap so someone gets a bargain, but still get more money than part-ex?
