Otherwise nice machine, not something you could live with day to day but definately something for the weekend!

It's a nice car, but if you're rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishing 22+ grand on a two seater I'm not quite sure why you wouldn't go for a Caterham/Lotus Elise etc.?
I would love an R26, but that's because I'd love a four seater with a boot that still goes like stink and returns half decent MPG when it's not being thrashed. The R26.R may well be the fastest FWD production car yet, but if it's still slower than a proper RWD sports car and barely more practical then it seems a bit pointless.
It's a limited edition collectors car Rave, not an every day motor!
Think Williams Clio... Last of the Mk1 shells tarted up to flog before the new model arrives... New Megane released shortly
Someone breaking the FWD Nurburgring lap record to me is like someone else breaking the 3 wheeler Nurbring lap record.
That said, less than 8:20 is impressive for an FWD vehicle.

Anybody else note the number of the R26.R being delivered to each country?:
- 230 for the UK
- 126 for France
- 26 for Spain
- 26 for Spain
- 26 for Germany
I saw that too and had a chuckle. It seems us brits have a soft spot for French hot hatches. More so than the french. Can't think why
After all they only gave to hot hatches the:
Peugeot 205 GTi - 1.6 and 1.9
Renault 5 GT turbo
Clio Williams and Sport 172.
Peugeot 306 GTi-6 (IIRC the most powerful hot hatch in 1998 as well as one of the best handling)
In other words they took the originally British concept of putting a powerful engine in a normal hatchback, ignored the germans method of making them nice and refined but not that fast and made them what they should be - fast accelerating, fast round the corners and fun to drive. We can overlook their questionable reliability when you've got a manic grin on your face every time you drive one.
