SKoda Roomstar - Anyone got any experience ?

Well it would appear that my Dad is looking to change his car, again.

He's got quite a few on his shortlist, and at the moment it would appear that the Skoda Roomstar has made it to his list. Now I don't know why he's chosen this car although I suspect something to do with having both sets of grandparents still living has something to do with it.

The front end of it looks like a Fabia, which is a very nice car. So to show interest in something like this, which is esentially an MPV is quite a strange choice indeed (Not that he's going to buy this car for certain)

A bit of background, Dad has been a Nissan fanatic for years, it started with a D reg Nissan Bluebird, and sadly his romance with Nissan ended lats year when his 53 reg Micra started costing him mega money so he got himself a 56 plate Chevy Kalos with a 1.2 engine, which I will be honest is as slow as a pushing treacle up a hill, backwards.

So I'm jst really asking if anyone knows much about the mentioned Skoda, would he be better off with a petrol or a diesel version ? He's looking to get one which is nearly new (about a year and a bit old I think)

Thanks in advance, I don't want him choosing a lemon, he's annoyed with the Kalos because it has very little torque, his Micra that he had before the Kalos had a very potent 1.4 petrol engine.

Haven't driven one meself, but Top Gear had one as a "lifer" last year, and it proved quite popular, kept getting borrowed for fambly holidays and such. It's allegedly cavernous in the back with the seats down and once it settled down, the Diesel (which they had) became quite livable with.

With the seats down I can't helping thinking of a Transit Connect

Bucket loads of room but ugly like the Citroen Berlingo (IMHO)

The Berlingo is a Postman Pat Van with windows lol.
