Got a bit aggressive with the T-Cut...

So the 8 year old, lord love her, was out on her bike.

And she runs the handle bar along the side of the car, leaving a deep, foot long scratch in the paintwork.

So genius boy here decides that a bit of coloured T-Cut is in order. No problems at either end where the scratch is shallow but in the middle I've really buggered up.

Yep, I rubbed through to the primer!

At that point I gave up, lost my temper, applied three coats of wax to the T-Cutted area and left it.

Except I now have a sodding beige patch, about the size of a 10p piece, right in the middle of the offside rear door.

Any ideas on the best way to fix this? I could spray it but metallic silver is gonna be a bastard to blend... I was thinking Chips Away might be able to help? Any had any experience with them?

Id just leave it. Polish is often to prevent corrosion, and ignore it.

You'll spend £50 - £100 to sort something that wont actually make any difference to the car it's not like you're gonna sell it soon or anything.

Why don't you just buy some touch-up paint?

It's pretty much in the centre of the rear door panel... one of the flattest, least contoured parts of the car, so ANY paint job has to blend in or it'll look odd and obviously touched-up.

Zak's right, I'll just leave it, wax it and keep an eye on it.

Maybe, before sale, I'll get Chips Away in if it makes a difference to the car price... but tbh, a far better investment is a new set of handlebar covers for the kid's bike so there's no metal tube tube sticking out the end.

And it's a part of the car that you know someone is going to clang their door into in a car park just after you've had it touched up..

Much as I don't like it, I've taken the stance that I'll patch up anything enough to stop it rusting, and to hell with small imperfections until I sell it, when I'll pay someone to do all the little jobs and I'm reasonably confident it won't pick them up afterwards.

Aye same, noticed I've collected a few tiny scratches in the nearside door already, from car parks.

Even parking the opposite end of the car park doesn't seem to safeguard you

Re: Got a bit aggressive with the T-Cut...

Doesn't help that the car park at work has spaces about two inches wider than the door mirrors of the average car, and loads of random numpties keep parking in it (though that seems to have slacked off recently with some clamping threats).
