Car audio ponderings....

At the moment I use a tomtom GO520 for satnav duties which broadcasts instructions to my headunit via either FM or the front AUX in on the front panel so I get instructions via the car speakers. Music is supplied by storing tracks on the SD card on the tomtom.

It also handles my hands free calling via bluetooth to my iPhone which is also broadcast over the car speakers.

I'm thinking of ditching it however to get the copilot software for the iPhone.

What would be the best way to mimic these benefits provided by the tomtom unit?

I'm starting to think that I'm probably better served keeping the tomtom. I could simply connect the iPhone up to the front Aux socket but I've never found the loudspeaker microphone particularly good on the iPhone and I dislike wearing headsets intensely.

Is there a simple solution?

I had a Sony head unit with bluetooth audio that I used to use with my Orbit 2 worked a treat for MP3's/Satnav and of course the phone. One thing to watch out for is that (at least on mine) the volumes for satnav and MP3 where seperate, queue Aussie listening to tunes and then nearing his first junction with satnav on jumping out of his skin by satnav bint saying at the next junction turn left in the loudest voice known to man!

Thanks for that, a good idea but I'd rather not splash out too much cash on changing the head unit, particularly as the space I have for the stereo is a little limited, I tried several brands before finding that JVC units fit in best.

The odd angle that mercedes installed the slot on this model means that only the slimmest of bezels fit

Anyone got any experience with those sun visor mounted speaker and microphone jobbies?

Also, if I had the phone hooked up to the stereo via the 3.5mm jack, would that inhibit the making of calls etc using either the loudspeaker or a bluetooth whatsit?
