RWYB costs: fees, insurance, etc

I would like to go to a RWYB at some point, but probably not with the current car (1.1L 106).

What's the cost like. I know that fees will vary with tracks, but an example would be great anyway. Whats insurance cost like for a day of RWYB and how much do people end up spending on tyres?

Any info will be helpful.

Santa Pod is typically about a tenner to get in to watch, then a further 15 quid to run as many times as you can fit in the day.

Insurance.. most people run without it, though you can get track cover from many insurers as an "add on" or even take out a seperate policy. Cost varies again..

Tyres? Depends how mental you are off the line I guess. I'd be more worried about clutch/gearbox!

As Lowe said, you will probably have more opportunity to damage the engine, box, clutch than a set of tyres, unless you sit in the 'box' warming your tyres for hours on end.
Ive always run without track insurance when RWYB, for 'proper' FIA racing i'm covered under a separate insurance policy.

I didn't make myself clear. I was thinking more of a track day on a circuit, rather than a drag strip. Didn't realise that RWYB was specific to Santa Pod.

Yes, sure its the gearbox you'd be worried about in Santa Pod, but on a proper race track tyres will get a bit worn too. Same goes for insurance. Not much of a problem when driving in a straight line, but if u go off on a fast corner things may be different, also theres other people to worry about.

Did anyone do track days? I am thinking Moby-Dick might've done some drifting in his 200sx...

I'd love to go drifting in the 200, but I can't afford the tyres ( even bugets ones for drifiting ) - perhaps when the coffers are fuller I'll think about it.

If I do , then I'm covered for track days under my insurance.

Im still working on a portfoilo for a 'large' sponser and intended to use Splifire as my first attempt

And apologies to dkmech - Ive always assumed RWYB to be a 'drag' thing, not a roundy roundy thing.... apologies
I would assume on a track day and driving hard you will do a set of tyres, not totally - but a good few mm, but having never done one - couldnt give you the ins and outs, my car wont like high speed corners anyway
