    e-bay fees ...a rip off?

Wow just had a look at my recent e-bay fees and they're creaming off about 10-15% of the sale price including paypal.

I know it's nice and easy to flog stuff and paypal is nice and easy aswell...but......

    Wow.

They're just in the process of increasing fees aswell (reserve fees).

What do you think of that

(I mean obviously I know it's better to do stuff on HExus in a friendly manner!)

    hexus is a lot better,

say you put it on, you pay to list it, you pay for a reserve, and then when you sell it you pay a chunk of what you sold it for

of the money you do actually get, 3% goes on paypal fees, then u have to pay 50p to upload to your bank account

and then you have to pay for the postage with the remaining money (if there is any left!) big con i say, i use it bu only occasionally, after waiting a week to sell something for 2 quid more than id get on hexus, and then to pay a tenner or so total in fees just aint worth it

Paypal is not related to ebay, and I hate using it....

    Prefer nochex etc.

IMO Ebay fees are pretty reasonable and are a lot cheaper than what you'd be charged if you went to a proper RL auction house.

Part of the reason they are raising fees is to encourage people to set reasonable reserve levels rather than wasting peoples time in bidding on things that the reserve is set ridiculously high on.

I also think that the fee's they charge are fine, plus the fact that anything you sell on eBay will be the best money you are going to get for it, especially computer related items.

Not too sure if this was a mistype, but paypal is a wholly owned ebay company.

I actually like the ease of paypal, but the painful fees :-)
I find nochex really clumsey, especially as they charge both the seller and the buyer to load/withdraw money.

Ebay fees are high yes, but I agree the real problem is with Ebay and Paypal combining forces to rob you of your hard earned moolah

What are the paypal fees? Look here:

Seems to infer that there aren't any!

    "never used ebay, never will"

A very constructive comment! Thanks for the insight! :-0 If you've never used it and never will....

Regarding the fees, if you want to use e-bay or have people pay you by Credit/Debit card you need the fee bearing account.

Paypal are setting up a European division, maybe that'll be better :-s

Fees are agood idea, as you can't get anything for nothing in this world, BUT a flat rate per item would be more benificial for the consumer, rater than a bit there, and a bit there.

I think the way they're shapping the fees is to basically get more money out of both buyer and seller.
I can't really blame them for this as they are a business after all
    :-)
Trouble is e-bay is the place to be, anywhere else is viewed as pants...

Paypal charges you when you recieve money - eg about 3 or 4% so say you get £100 off someone, they take £4 off you. You then put the money in your bank account (this will take about 4/5 days) and they'll charge you another quid I think.

Then annoyingly if you need to give a refund, paypal won't let you unless you've got the funds in your paypal account - so you have to send the money to the person eg £100, then paypal will take another £4 off giving the end person £96.

Another annoying thing about ebay is if you use "featured plus" etc, at £10 an item, if your item doesn't sell you don't get this money back, so a friend of mine had really bad luck with some of his items, listed them and got non-paying bidders, and he could claim back the ebay fees charged (eg £10 (about 5%)) but could not claim back the "featured plus" , meaning each unsuccessful sale he's down £10.

To be fair paypal are getting better.

They're going to set a European business, hopefully that wil mean that the fraud program will be valid.

They also recently dropped the fees for withdrawing to £free over £30 and 25p-50p for udner that.

I've also had a few success refunds where no fees are charged.

I just wodner how many e-bayer think they're making a profit on a sale when really most of the fees are hidden.
