    Thinking of selling my RX8

I'm sorry to report that my RX8 might have to go after 6 months. Don't get me wrong its an amazing car and ticks all the boxes apart from running costs.

So I plan to sell it and buy myself a £1.5 - £2k car and bank the money from the sale and the reduced insurance, fuel costs.

I've been looking for a coupe of days now for a good replacement but can't seem to come up with any solid choices. I do however like the look of the Alfa 156

    Ideas anyone?

While Alfa's are nice I wouldn't touch one if it's reliability you're looking for. While they have got a heck of a lot better they're still a bit temperamental and aren't, generally, cheap to repair if things go nipples skyward.

I downgraded from a 307 to a Mk4 Golf for similar reasons, saved a bunch of cash when i went for an older motor, and insurance worked out slightly cheaper, and the 307 guzzled gas like crazy!

I just can't bare thinking i've spent so much on a car when a runaround will do the same job.

Re: Thinking of selling my RX8

    Don't buy a 156. They're risky enough when new.
Besides it'll probably cost you more in day-to-day repairs than the RX8 does in extra fuel even if you go by Mazda's official consumption claims

For 2k you'll be looking at the Gen6 Celica, 200SX, Pug 406, Fiat Coupe and Hyundai Coupe.
Sadly a decent 406 is beyond your budget. The rest however are easily in your grasp if you carefully shop around.

We're on our second Celica and there are quite a few Celica and 200SX owners here on Hexus. Neither drink like the RX8 but I'd never call them economical.
The sweet spot for reasonable Celica GT's atm is around £2.2-2.5k but I'm sure a bit of haggling will see you there.

TBH a 406 HDI would be the best on-paper option but they're rare and pricey it seems with £3k managing and eight-yr-old with 120k miles!
I just can't recommend it with confidence because of Peugeot's legendary reliability.

I'm looking at £2k Mazda MX5's. They seem to be ticking all the boxes.

It is a beauty and I'm still convinced that you can't get more car for the money. But the £4k I'll make from the sale and further £2k I'll save from servicing, insurance and fuel means the decision is already made for me

Re: Thinking of selling my RX8

Get a slightly older powerfull diesel. Something like a leon diesel and remap it wont be nearly as fast as the rx8 but it will be economical around town and have serious overtaking power for the A roads.

    Or a golf tdi?

Seriously though 2l tdi with a remap on a medium sized hatchback imo is the sweet spot between speed and economy.
