    Bike insurance?

So since i just got my first bike( suzuki en 125-2) and am looking to insure it. Dad tells me its useless going third party fire and theft/comp because of the excess is about £800 +more insurance!.

So far ive found quotes from Bennett's and "Just" to be cheapest, Bennetts is £215 and Just is £203, question is what ones better? Ive never heard of Just and so has anyone actually had insurance through them?. Anyone able to suggest cheap insurers? Looking on go compare+bike insurer and several independent ones(Aviva quoted £1200!!!).

    Any help is appreciated .

edit: woops, wrong section... mods feel free to move it if you want to !

    Re: Bike insurance?

Swinton are cheap for bike insurance. If you go to the insurance finder on MCN website they will come back with a load of quotes, just pick the cheapest that does not come from Bennetts

I despise Bennetts because of prior dealings with them, ridiculous hidden charges in their small print and so on, and would never use them again ever.

For a 125 there's little point going comp (if you're in a crash, the cost of damage to your bike will be the least of your worries!) but depending on where you keep your bike theft might be handy to have, if TPFT is only a little more expensive than third party only.

    Re: Bike insurance?

The issue i have with most bike insurers is that they all use the same underwriter ie Red Star.

I am currently with Bennets, 111 to insure my Yam YBR125 for TPFT, would never ever go fully comp on a 125, it's not worth it.

There all has bad has each other, best bet, use the price comparison sites, then fone the top 5 from each and see what they can do, also i would stress, read the small print....

    Re: Bike insurance?

I don't have an issue with the brokers using the same underwriter (Swintons and Bennetts do indeed both use Red Star). This just means the basic cost of insurance is similar across all brokers, before the brokers start including their ridiculous and uncommercial terms.

Watch out for Bennetts BTW, at the end of your policy they'll automatically renew, increasing your premium signifcantly for no reason (mine doubled!) and also charging you a hidden and non-refundable £30 renewal fee that will not appear on your renewal schedule (if you even get one, I didn't) before charging another fee to cancel the policy that you didn't want in the first place and only find out about from your credit card statement

    Re: Bike insurance?

Just get on line with the price comparison sites. It can be a real pain, but worth it. Just make sure you use an email address that is not important and dont give your real telephone numbers until you go to buy a policy.

With regard to excess, being an old git, I only have minimal compulsory excess and no voluntary one. I tend to swap brokers every year, but often (not always) end up with the same insurer (yep Equity Red Star). I got a massive reduction this year when I switched to the one that came top in the MCN survey...will post name later as I have forgotten it.

I didnt know if just was any good or not to be fair
My mate pays £250 for his insurance and so i think i found a great price, £215 bennetts. My dads used them plenty and had no issues at all, along with many other companies!.
