I'm certainly not good at controlling slides, as two spins in my first year of ownership will attest. I haven't really pushed it since then, although quite by accident I managed a near perfect slide on a banked but slippery mini roundabout.

Anyway, I want to learn a bit of tailsliding, and I'm thinking that this will be easier (and safer, because the car will be going slower when it slides) if I have el-cheapo tyres rather than the (in my experience) excellent A539s. Thoughts?

Skii, how do etyres work? I work Mon-Fri and commute by train. Will they just show up to my house and fit the tyres unattended? Or do they work on Saturdays too? Does the price shown include balancing, and everything (I.E. is the £39 the total price I'd pay per tyre fitted)?

    Cheers,

Yes they do Saturdays m8 - just phone them up the Friday, and they'll be round. The price includes fitting, balancing is about a fiver extra I think.

    Thats it

Cool, cheers. I'm in a bit of a quandary though, I'm pretty sure one of my rear tyres is illegally bald and my MOT is due in a few days. I don't want to spend too much replacing it though, in case the car fails on something really expensive. Still, I suppose I could probably get some of the money back flogging the wheels on an owner's club site or something.

Oh my god. Just had my Nangkangs on the front swapped for nice new "Vredestein Hi Trac" tyres and oh my god i now have more grip in the wet than i used to have in the dry with my old tyres. It feels like someone has swapped my focus for a focus rs without telling me! She just grips and grips and grips. No hint of understeer.

Awesome - has anyone heard of these Vredestein before? Never again will i buy cheapo tyres.

Get it in for MOT, and at the very least get your Spare tyre flung on! (please say your spare is in serviceable condition!)

It has tread, but it has a puncture. I'll pump it up and see how long it lasts, might be enough to last the day.

Much as I like the tyre place who sold me the first two A539s, they managed to puncture not one but two of the old tyres while doing wheel swaps.

    Vredestein?
Yup although no idea what they're normally like. I once thought of them as a cheap brand but now it's just a tyre you don't see all that often and therefore know little about.
Glad to hear it's fixed your grip problems, maybe now you can really enjoy the incisive steering your Focus is armed with! Roundabouts AHOY!

Mum's fiesta has a right mixture on it, Pirelli P1000 on left rear, P2000 on the right, and some cheap Capitols on the front.. It doesn't half squeal what you go around corners..
