Wiring new amp + sub into car

Anyone know of any good guides for wiring in a new amp + sub into a car?

Got given a 350W amp + a sub from a mate and was looking to install it in my car and wondering what I need and how to do it, pretty much an idiots guide as I haven't done it before

You'll need: Line Output Converter, a set of RCAs (unless your amp has a high level input) and a power feed.

How many channel amp is it?

Re: Wiring new amp + sub into car

If it is 4 + Sub, do you want to run all your car speakers through the amp, or just the sub?

ATM I only have a sub, I will be wiring other speakers in later, but they are just the stock ones atm so I don't really see any point

Re: Wiring new amp + sub into car

    This guide's not bad.... eHOW

What radio/head unit are you using ?
This will decide how you connect it to the amp and if you need a line-convertor and/or to wire in a power switch

Also, the most important thing when doing this is make sure you put a fuse on the +ve feed from the battery and as close as possible to the battery (i.e. within 18") - this stops your car catching fire

But in brief, you run a +ve feed direct from the battery to the amp, you earth the -ve to a ground point as close as possible to the amp in the boot (e.g. the rear light cluster earth point). Then you need the signal (RCA/line out) feed from the stereo and a low volt signal to tell the amp to turn on - in aftermarket stereos they may have this, some OEMs may, otherwise you need to create these.

Re: Wiring new amp + sub into car

Ok its 2.1 as in 2 speakers + sub (delusions of grandeur lol), would be wiring in the sub when I can then the other speakers later (is it possible to run the standard speakers from the amp so all the wiring is done at once?)

Currently it's a bog standard (I think) Pioneer radio + cassette but I was thinking of switching it for a radio + cd with a 3.5mm jack in if I can (did most of the wiring on my iPod kit today so don't need iPod control or anything like that
