    Lexus IS 200

Ok, so a mate is about to get his first car. He has been insured on his mums 306 for a couple of years, but this will be the first car insured in his name.

He had his heart set on a Freelander (!) until recently and now he wants an IS 200, any opinions on them/had a drive? I have to admit they look pretty damn smart.

Tell him to get the import 2.5 V6 model if he can afford it, much more fun.

Insurance will no doubt hurt, but they are fabulous cars, really comfy and spacious. Also, being a Lexus, the build quality is Immense, and they come with pretty much everything as standard.

Yeah - my dads had one of these for a little bit, he really liked them. From taking a look at the engine, the 2L straight 6 will be easily moddable

I would advise him to try and get an insurance quote before he buys it (just incase).

Insurance will kill him, make sure hes sitting down when he sees the quotes...

Also tell him to expect high fuel bills of hes heavy footed...

If insurance is going to be so much, would it be that much more to get the Altezza? Same car, just with a Toyota badge but abuot £4k cheaper than the Lexus equivalent (or they were last time I checked Autotrader)

Were they sold over here though?

If not insurance is likely to be on a par if not greater than the IS200

Won't be good enough? It's the same car! He won't be fooling anyone with a bit of knowledge, they'll know his Lexus is just an overpriced Toyota

And if that insurance is on par with the Lexus, well that's my point, if he's going to pay that much, he could get an Altezza as they're cheaper than their Lexus counterpart.

its not me suggesting its not good enough, but he wants a Lexus, not a Toyota. He is kinda superficial

The only reason lexus came into being is because no one wants a £20k toyota.

I understand your friends reasoning and agree with him. Get the lexus!
