ARB Bush - On Backorder till 25th!

Evening guys,

Car went into the dealership up here for its MOT and to have its injectors fixed (again - but that is another story) and it failed on an ARB Bush - at a guess, excessive play - because it was knocking shortly before I took it in.

That's all fine, and as my car is under warranty (Honda HF2 - think it's the top tier warranty, and as close to a new car warranty as you can get after the first 3 years) so should all be sorted.


Well it will be, but not yet. Turns out there are none of these bushes in UK, none in Europe. Ooops. So I've got their hirecar (which they need back) and no car till the 25th. Thankfully Holden Honda have arranged an Enterprise Rent-a-car for me, so that should be it sorted - top marks to them for customer service

Though one thing does make me wonder - how can Honda run out of ARB Bushes?

the same way Citroen ran out of dispatch anti roll bars.

a parts defective, they stop production and design an uprated part that takes ages to pass QA and go into circulation.

they cant even get me a sodding head gasket, its taken them a month

Even for a >3 year old car? I thought one of the nice things about older cars is they've had a chance to sort these things out and build up stock of replacements. You sometimes get seasonal shortages though (coil springs in winter etc.).

Dropped the Honda Civic Hire Car I've had for the last 4 days back to the dealership, and enterprise dropped this off for me:



Fairly well equipped - Leather, Heated Seats, OBC, Automatic Lights (not sure on wipers - haven't had need to use them) Electric Windows/Mirrors etc etc. So should be ok for the time I've got it Thanks Honda

I hate parts shortages, especially when I've bitten the bullet and gone to a main dealer to get robbed for them.

The guy in Busseys couldn't get me a bloody sump gasket. Then he suggested instant gasket! What's next? Shall I tighten up head bolts with an adjustable spanner?

We had one recently with a Pug 407 rear wheel speed (abs) sensor. Ordered a third party one, no probs...until it arrived and the wiring was a foot too short. Ring up Peugeot and there are 1500 of the bloody things on back order. Was three months before we got one...

They ran out of them because they fit the Fiat Scudo AND the Peugeot Expert.. not to mention that they are all rubbish. My Scudo's had 2 and my colleague's is in for it's 3rd next week

my 08 plates in 2morrow for its 6th EGR valve (last was a recall one that is meant to fix the issue) new head gasket that was missed when they fixed 1 of the 2 oil leaks. new turbo hose and possibly turbo housing, window cables, dodgy central locking, new back door release, its just had a EGR valve (2000 miles ago, drive shaft, rear door latch bodged up, gasket on the side of the engine that was leaking oil.

its really a very economical van as it spends 25% of its life up on a friggin ramp being fixed the POS

re the faulty EGR, did it come up with "anti-pollution faulty" on the console, smoke like a beagle in a lab and only rev to 2800?

came up with anti polution, no smoke no rev limit, been the same every time.

the 1st few it would light up then the engine would cut out after a couple of minutes and refuse to pull away without stalling.

Mine's done that too.. although the usual one is the light comes on, anti-pollution faulty and the thing goes into limp mode. Usually on an uphill exit from a busy roundabout

we have about 10 of the 08-09 dispatch vans, they are all bags of sheet, the older ones are fine, just the usual things like the sumps rotting through..

the time before last it didnt break down so i drove it for a couple of days, then the EGR valve blew off its mountings
i was glad to be 15 miles from home so i could limp back and have it towed in.

never had the limp mode, but the stalling issue was wierd, it would start and idle, rev up to the 2800rpm limiter that lifts at 5mph and cut out lol

Sorry for the thread Hijack Dave, but we're gettin' riled about our rubbish vans now.. mine died within sight of my house tonight - it just wouldn't get up the hill, masses of smoke and wouldn't stay lit under ANY load, even down hill. Had to abandon the thing at the bottom and walk home. Not happy at all - it's about 7 miles away from 47K, and it's probably had more spent on it in the garage than was paid for it in the first place
