I was going to say I saw this when it first aired, but then I realised it's a follow up. Looks interesting. Thanks for highlighting it.
Crazy how the one woman got dragged under the wheels of the lorry unscathed. That would be horrible to see right in front of you. I've since been making a point to move to the far right of the lane when I go past people on the hard shoulder.
Saw this on iPlayer last night, truly truly disturbing, and shows flawing in the way we handle mental illness in the courts IMHO, how the footage from the M6 wasn't disclosed to the people evaluating her I dont know, might have stoped what happened next
Pretty unsettling TBH.
Not sure this belongs in Cars and Bikes really, it raises a lot of questions about whether the public is adequately protected from people with obvious mental illness. I don't think someone who has apparently never spoken about why they killed someone should be freed.
Bad memory. I was thinking of the other woman who got up and ran onto the other side of the motorway. I don't recall them originally saying the one under the truck had her legs smashed to pieces, although it makes a lot more sense than being unharmed.
It was an interesting programme. It gave a lot more insight than the first programme. I thought they were on PCP at first. The judge seemed to be frustrated with his legal limitations.
Could someone summarise the programme? I remember seeing the incident first time around but don't actually want to see it again
This whole programme was about the two Swedish twins who ran onto the motorway. No traces of drugs were found in their blood and it was decided they were both mentally ill. Sabine, the one who did not go under the lorry was let out of custody after 24 hours when it was decided she was no longer a risk. Two men walking back from the pub saw her standing by the road looking confused with a plastic bag full of belongings, and they got talking when she commented on the dog they were walking. She asked if there was a local bed and breakfast. There were none, so the older man offered to let her stay at his place. She stabbed him to death the next day.
The programme had a reenactment of the events and explained the process of everything that happened, including the prosecution's and defense's diagnoses of her mental condition. They had different diagnoses, I can't remember what they were, but it was basically a short spell of madness. She pled guilty to manslaughter on diminished responsibility. The judge couldn't use the usual mental health sentencing because it was decided she was no longer mentally ill. So he couldn't keep her monitored after leaving prison, and he couldn't give her an indefinite sentence. She got 5 years and will be elligible for parole next year, with no monitoring on her release.

That's horrific. I don't remember them mentioning anything about that the first time around (despite the fact the death must have happened some time before the program was aired) - I guess the case was ongoing at the time.
They did say a couple of times that they couldn't show any of this at the time for legal reasons. The court case for the murder was in December last year, despite the events happening in May 2008.
A lot of these fly on the wall police programmes are shown a year or so after the filming because of ongoing court cases. That's how they often have the resulting outcomes at the end.
Saw the original footage last year and never heard anything more about it, but spotted this on iPlayer yesterday -saw no advertising on the BBC about it though?!
yeah if you want to be safe go in the trucking lane and accept everyone else in a car flying past you. but this only works if you're not tailgating a lorry, which alot of people in the slow lane seem to do :/
thanks to the OP for pointing this story out, very harrowing
i hope so as i detest middle lane morons
