I think he means when going past someone on the hard shoulder..
I always use the middle lane when going past someone on the hard shoulder ever since someone opened their door without looking and I was about 6" off hitting it.

It's terrible on the M1 near Laaandan where it switches to 4 or 5 lanes tho

where i live between J25-26 has just gone 4 lanes and the sheer amount of cocks who now sit in lane 3 in unbelievable, i have taken to going into lane 1 and undertaking most traffic when it drops below 70 as the flippin lanes empty!

even the lorry drivers do not use it :|

Confusing undertaking with passing on the inside there chap, if you stay in your lane and pass people that are in the lane to the right of you that is not illegal, if you cross lanes to go under them, that is undertaking, and thats the bit thats illegal.
